It's Music to my Ears

I had my 2nd Dr's appointment on Saturday, June 5th.

This time, I heard the rhythmic - and fast- thumping of my little one's heart. What a beautiful sound :) His/Her heart was beating between 165/170 bpm! Can you imagine something that is [now] only the size of my palm - about 1.6 inches long - has a heart that beats so fast? Amazing!!! I wish I had recorded the sound, because I'm longing to hear it again...next time :)

Saurabh, my MIL and I went to the doctor's office. As usual, the nurse took my weight/asked some normal questions and sent me to the examination room to meet the doc. The doc then rubbed some jelly on my belly...and used a Doppler device to track down the heartbeat. It was scary at first (and she had already warned me) because it took her a couple of minutes to find it. It was on the lower right side, kind of near my pelvic bone. Once we heard the "music," we all could not stop smiling!!!!

This was the day I was waiting for...for more reasons than one. I wanted to not only get the assurance that everything is A-OK...but once I heard the heartbeat, I had decided I would tell the rest of my family/friends about our little one.

Ayesha already knew, since she had come to take care of me in NH just a few days prior (I was in NH for work)...and I told Falak & Mansi later that day. The list of calls continued to everyone in India (Saurabh's family)...aunts/uncles...and then later to my family. The reactions ranged from surprise (since it had been a long 6-year wait to hear this news!) to happiness...received words of love, and words of advice (Shelly bhaiya warned me not to eat too much...and especially not too much ghee!!!). It's wonderful sharing the news with all my loved ones. And...it was VERY hard to keep it from them for so long!

My friend Deepti is moving away to Chicago, so on Saturday night we had a farewell party for her - I announced it to our Cincy group then...and everyone else that was remaining, I told them at Rahul's birthday party the following evening. What was funny, is that Pallavi was sitting next to me and apologizing for not being able to attend a Girl's Movie Night that I had planned a couple of weeks ago. She looked sick (ok, that's not the funny part)...so I told her, it's totally ok - I can tell you haven't been feeling well. As I said that, she relayed the news that she is expecting! And my response: ME TOO!!!! :-) But, it's interesting to see, that although she's a month ahead of me, how different our pregnancies are. Goes to show - everyone is different, and every pregnancy is different.

But now, I'm 11 weeks...and have almost completed my First Trimester...woohoo! :)

I'm still feeling very tired these days, and do have the occasional bouts of feeling nauseated. But, all in all, it's not too bad. I have very vivid, strange dreams these days! My tummy has definitely gotten chubbier, but I'm not "showing" as of yet. I don't really like sleeping on my back - I prefer sleeping on my left side. Other than that, not too many other "symptoms" - but I'm looking forward to getting some energy back, whenever that happens :)

I really can't wait to hold you, love you, hug you and kiss you - MY little one! :) Love you!

-M
